Sino-U.S. Cultural Exchange Scholarship

Eligibility

A. Applicant must be an American citizen.

B. Bachelor’s degree applicants must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25.

C. Master’s degree applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

D. Doctoral degree applicants must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

E. Applicants may not apply to any language or literature related majors (other than Chinese).

F. Applicants should not be holders of any other scholarship provided by the Chinese government.


Application Procedures

A. Nankai University Admittance

a) Submit application materials to the International Students Office prior to the deadline

(March 10th).

b) All valid applications will be reviewed by the NKU Admission Committee Panel and a final admission list will be confirmed by the school. (March 25th -April 10th)*Only applicants who have been accepted by Nankai University can qualify as candidates for the Chinese Government Scholarship.


B. Chinese Government Scholarship Admittance

a) The list of scholarship candidates will be finalized and sent to the China Scholarship Council before May.

b) The International Students Office will announce the final results after receiving confirmation from the China Scholarship Council before the end of July. Upon making the announcement, the Nankai University International Student Office will mail applicants an Admission Notice as well as Form JW201 - Visa Application for Study in China.


Application Materials

A.《Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship》. Please log-in to the website www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina to fill out the online application and print out the form. Please submit the application form with a photo. (Note: Please choose “B” for “Program Category” and type “10055” as the “Agency No.”) Majors:

B.《Nankai University Application Form》. Please log-in to the website http://nankai.17gz.org/ to complete the online application, submit it and print it out.

C. Notarized highest diploma. Applicants must submit an official document issued by their current school to prove their current student status or expected graduation date. For documents in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

D. Academic transcripts (written in Chinese or English). Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English , notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

E. Personal Statement including a study or research plan, personal background, financial situation, personal strengths, etc., written in Chinese or English (no less than 800 words).

F. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. The contact information of the referrer should be included.

G. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form written in English (template). The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

H. Photocopy of Passport (should be valid until Sep. 30th of the admission year ).

I. Copy of Application Fee Receipt. The application fee for postgraduate programs is CNY600 or US$100, and for undergraduate, CNY400 or US$75. Please submit the fee to the Nankai University Registry (ground floor of Nankai University Student Activity Center). If you need to wire the money, please send it to the following account:

Value of Award

A. Exemption from tuition fee.

B. Provide free accommodation on-campus for the first year.

C. Living allowance: Bachelor’s degree: CNY 2,500/month; Master’s degree: CNY 3,000/month; Doctoral degree: CNY 3,500/month.

D. Chinese Government Scholarship students’ comprehensive insurance in China: CNY800/student/year.


Other Tips

A. Scholarships Scholarship will not be reserved if the scholarship recipient fails to register before the registration deadline.

B. Scholarship recipients shall not change their host university, field of study, or duration of studyunless they give up the grant.

C. The duration of the scholarship shall be in accordance to the length of study established at the time of admission. In principle, this duration cannot be extended upon the student’s arrival in China.

D. The CSC will evaluate the performance of the scholarship students annually.

E. For documents in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.
