University Postgraduate Program


A. Non-Chinese international students.

B. Master’s degree applicants must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

C. Doctoral degree applicants must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

D. Applicants may not apply to any languages or literature related majors (other than Chinese).

E. Applicants should not be holders of any other scholarship provided by the Chinese government.

Application Materials

(in duplicate, A4 size and printed single sided)

A.《Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship》. Please log-in to the website to complete the online application and print out the form. Please submit the application form with a photo. (Note: Please choose “B” for “Program Category” and type “10055” as the “Agency No.”)

B.《Nankai University Application Form》. Please log-in to the website and complete the online application, submit it and print it out.

C. Notarized highest diploma. Applicants expecting to graduate this academic year must submit an official document issued by their current school to prove their current student status or expected graduation date. For documents in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required.

D. Academic transcripts (written in Chinese or English). For transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English, notarized Chinese or English translations are required..

E. Personal Statement, including a study or research plan, personal background, financial situation, personal strengths, etc., written in Chinese or English (no less than 800 words).

F. Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. The contact information of the referrers should be included.

G. Applicants applying for programs taught in Chinese are required to have HSK level 4 or above. Those who have not reached the required HSK level or have no knowledge of Chinese can apply for one year of scholarship-covered remedial Chinese language studies before entering their major studies. Applicants whose native language is not English applying for programs taught in English should provide TOEFL (above 87) or IELTS (above 6.5) score.

H. Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form written in English (template). The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

I. Photocopy of Passport (should be valid until Sep. 30th of the admission year ).

J. Copy of Application Fee Receipt. The application fee for postgraduate programs is CNY600 or US$100.Please submit the fee to the Nankai University Registry (the ground floor of the Nankai University Student Activity Center). If you need to wire the money, please send it to the Following account:

Value of Award

A. Exemption from tuition fee.

B. Provide free accommodation on-campus for the first year.

C. Living allowance: Bachelor’s degree: CNY 2,500/month; Master’s degree: CNY 3,000/month; Doctoral degree: CNY 3,500/month.

D. Chinese Government Scholarship students’ comprehensive insurance in China: CNY800/student/year.

Other Tips

A. Scholarship will not be reserved if the scholarship recipient fails to register before theregistration deadline.

B. Scholarship recipients shall not change their host university, field of study, or duration of studyunless they give up the grant.

C. The CSC will evaluate the performance of the scholarship students annually.
